If you have time, spending a few hours at the Swiss Museum of Transport located in Lucerne is fun and rewarding. You can get to it by bus, boat, and car or do what we did, walk the beautiful lake trail.
The museum is located north of the city on the shore of Lake Lucerne. The interesting walk took less than thirty minutes.
Anything that has to do with transportation is in Switzerland’s most popular museum.
Right outside is a humongous drill-pit used in the Gotthard tunnel. You can argue that this museum is of Smithsonian standards.
The Swiss Pass covers half the cost. You can also include an IMAX theater presentation. The Galapagos show looked quite good. There is even a Planetarium.
Every area has “hands-on” type of activities for children. The kids were having lots of fun.
Every display is authentic from trains, planes, boats and a whole lot more. One could spend easily a half day here.
We could only stay for a few hours and thoroughly enjoyed our time. Indeed, we were impressed with the genius of this museum.
