A Few Tips about Hotel Stella Della Marina
Book early as it has become a very popular hotel run by an interesting local, Gabrielle Marcelini. He has named this hotel in honor of his lovely daughter, Stella. It is an 11 room pension, with AC and breakfast on the terrace facing the sea.
Stella della Marina Hotel is located in” Old Town” of Monterosso. It is about a ten minute walk from the train station from “New Town.” You proceed out of the train station and go left. You will see the road forks, definitely take the “Tunnel Road” that veers to the left.
The road to the right is picturesque with a Nazi bunker. The walkway to the right goes up with many steps.
After the tunnel, you will proceed under the arches of the train tracks and you will see a church. Go right of the Church and you will locate Ristorante Moretto. An alley is directly right of Moretto and Stella della is a short ways up to the left.
We secured a room eleven months in advance. Gabrielle is excellent communicating with you by email. Rooms 11 and 10 are the sea view rooms. We opened the windows and had breezes from the sea as well as from the mountain. There was no need for the AC which is located in the room.
Room 11 was our favorite room in our 34 day sojourn. It was 84 steps up.
Gabrielle will carry all your bags up and down. He is a worker and loves his hotel. Half the fun of Stella della Marina is watching Gabrielle.
Breakfasts are ample. There is a good chance you will meet your fellow guests on the sea view terrace. Gabrielle offers a “Happy Hour” on the terrace in the evening. We had met a friendly group of Norwegians who spoke perfect English.
Gabrielle has owned this hotel since 2012. He had refurbished everything with his friends and wife. The interior designs are unique and pleasant.
Our room was large and there was even a TV and small refrigerator.
The bathroom was small, but doable.
The shower was just big enough to fit a large person like myself. The only need would be to have hooks on the door.
Saying good-by to Gabrielle was like family. Old Monterosso is unique and interesting. There was plenty to do and a short train ride away to the other villages. When we plan to come back to Italy, we will make a stop at Stella della Marina a must do stay.
