As “yogurt” connoisseurs from Florida to Hawaii, we have seen and tasted many yogurts. Your Albuquerque Yogurt stands out for several reasons.
This unique establishment is located in a large distinctive home, the Romero House, across the beautiful Old Town Plaza. The Amapola Gallery is upstairs, while YAY is downstairs. There is a large indoor patio area, outside patio area and inside couches to relax. The bathrooms, too, are extremely clean.
When we were there the owner is a “hand’s-on” individual. She was passing out free samples of her yogurt in the plaza. She was pleasant and extremely friendly. Her fellow smiling workers were more than willing to explain the system.
There are four machines serving eight flavors from Low Fat to No Fat Yogurt. I particularly liked the Coconut and Caramel Popcorn flavors. You could sample each of the eight flavors.
Most yogurt shops use a “weighing” system to calculate the price of the yogurt. Your Albuquerque Yogurt has four sized cups starting at $3. You can fill up the cup as much as you like for once price. One can spend a small fortune “weighing” yogurt.
There are also sixty different toppings like Oreo’s, fruit and various chocolates to fill up the cup, at that same price. Forget the “weighing” here! I love the concept.
We came back not once, but twice in our stay. “Yogurt is yogurt,” but YAY takes it a step further making the experience memorable and priced reasonably. This is a popular place with locals and visitors alike.
