Along the rail road tracks on the other side of the street from a large boating storage facility, is the unique Whistle Stop eatery. There are tables inside and out. More like a diner café, you order at the cash register and take a number.
The grill is right in front, while the inside seating is to the side. Breakfast is served all day. The hours from Monday to Saturday are from 7am to 9pm, and Sunday from 8am until 3pm.
One of my three friends really did enjoy the roast beef sandwich. It was filled with plenty of meat. The Philly Cheese Steak looked good too. One of my friends had the Turkey Reuben and the meat looked fresh.
I had barbeque pulled pork. The meat was tasty and tender. I thought it just needed, though, a little more barbeque. I did not care for The Whistle Stop’s Cole Slaw. The fries were your normal tasting item.
Known for the “Hoagie’s,” there is a loyal following that patronizes The Whistle Stop. The prices are quite reasonable and you do get plenty of comfort food. This is a good eatery in Port Salerno.
