The best times are in the summer. It gets even better if the rains stops. A small creek does flow into the bay and it can be rather murky going out. Just hang in there and it will clear up.
The big problem with Honolua Bay is the entry and exit by the water. You just have to take your time by those rocks. It is these rocks that the Bay has received several negative marks.
It was there in the murky water that I found someone’s gold ring with a diamond. Luckily, they place their name in the ring and I was able to return the item to the rightful owner via mail. True! (Courtesy from Facebook):
THE WANDERING RING
I would like to share this personal story about the family of Marty &Kathie Biel icki. I lost the ring snorkeling with my son Kevin at Hono…lulu – Mokena Bay north of Naplil, Maui in March this year. I realized it was lost when we returned to the condo in Kahana. After searching the car and posting notices on Facebook with no result the ring was gone. This is an award ring from the company I spent 25 years with.
Early July I got a call from Marty Bielicki in Jensen Beach, Florida. He and his son had been snorkeling at the same beach in Maui and found the ring and began a long search to find my.
I profusely thank him and his family for their honesty and long effort.
