Located in “uptown” in Sedona, this motel is located at the beginning of Jordan Street. You can’t miss the large sign on the pole about fifty feet up or so.
We had scouted this hotel a year before in mid-March. The owner, Ann, had quoted a price of $99 for a king. Even though it was written as such, the price jumped up to $115 in the beginning of this April. “We have to eat,” she stated. All I thought was the nice raise Social Security gave us this past year to pay for this 15% hike. We accepted as the Star Motel was our first choice for four days.
The main advantage of the Star Motel is the central proximity to “uptown” Sedona. The cinder block building was constructed many years ago. Consequently, the room and bathroom are small, but doable.
The view from the window is a small barbeque shack and the back of several buildings. There is a nice walk up Jordan Street with a neat museum at the end. Ironically, many of the stores in “uptown” do close at 6:00 PM.
Ann and her mom have owned this place for many years. Gregarious and knowledgeable of the area, Ann is filled with stories and suggestions.
I found the bed comfortable. My wife, though, did notice that shower floor was not cleaned and the wine she had spilt by the refrigerator was not cleaned up. For two days, soap, shampoo and coffee was not provided. Ann told us that a different woman works the weekends.
The Wi-Fi connection was spotty at times. There was a small refrigerator and microwave that came in handy. The information about the TV channels was out of date. We never did find the HBO channel.
A budget motel it is not. With $15 in taxes, the bill came to $130 a night. Walk-ins were quoted a higher rate. For this amount, one would think there is a pool on property and a breakfast provided. It is not.
The Star Motel opens at 10:00AM and closes at 7:00PM. If you need ice after seven, you are out of luck as you get the ice from the front desk.
If we ever make it back to Sedona, I don’t think the Star Motel will be our first choice. For a few dollars more, you can have a pool, all the ice you want and even a hot breakfast.
