Located a short ways from I-17, the Montezuma’s Well National Monument is historic to the region. A limestone sink hole spring was a valuable asset to the Sinagua Indians.
The paved hike to the well is extremely short. You might have more trouble finding a parking space. It is, indeed, well worth the hassle waiting for a space.
A Park Ranger was close by pointing out “things” of interest. In our case, it was a small Hawk that was hiding in the rock crevices. You can imagine Indians, particularly children, swimming in the small pond eons ago.
We also enjoyed visiting Montezuma’s Castle, Tuzigoot and the V Bar V Ranch Petroglyphs off of route 179 east of Sedona.
