A Few Tips About Metropole Suisse Hotel

We selected this hotel due to the proximity to the railroad. It is still a good 15 minute walk with bags. There are about sixty steps down to and through a park. Coming back we decided to walk around the park on a more even trail. After second thoughts, taking a Taxi for ten euros would have been a better trip, at least for arriving.

Metropol Sussie is a four star hotel. It is located on a main plaza and across the street to the fast ferries.

It is located in an ideal location. Downtown are steps away with the Duomo and funicular up the mountain five minutes away. Walking around the lake is beautiful too.

Lake Como is what everybody says it is, stunning.

We were greeted by a beautiful and young Russian woman who spoke perfect English. She helped us with all our questions. Everyone was pleasant at Metropol Sussie. We were even able to change our dollars into euros at a decent rate.

Friendly staff at this hotel.

Our first images, though, is of the inviting foyer area with comfortable couches and plenty of space. A restaurant is close by where breakfast is served and where you can get ice. We found the bartenders to be extremely friendly.

We had an upper room with our window facing Lake Como.

Our view was spectacular.

Getting to it was a bit of a problem as the elevator is just too small. My wife has claustrophobia and with our bags, she walked the staircase.

The room is modern and small. The bathroom was larger than many European style hotels. The AC could get really cold.

The TV was good, but the Wi-Fi reception was spotty. On our second night, we were called at 5:30AM to tell us “Our TV was too loud.” I really didn’t think so and wondered if our “walls were really that thin?”

I can’t say we got great sleeps here. The bed was so darn firm and so were the pillows. You could bounce a quarter off of them.

The hotel is decorated with antiques and everything was “dark” looking. Some people could say that the hallways are “dated,” and needed refurbishment. It was like night and day with the foyer area and the upstairs hall areas.

The breakfasts are ample. We noticed a number of tour groups, like Gate One, who sat in different areas. I wondered if their beds were as firm as ours. One person did say they got a “great sleep.”

We stayed for three days and Metropol Sussie became our central location to explore Lake Como. Highly recommend a visit to Bellagio and Varenna. We enjoyed seeing the Gardens of Melzi in Bellagio and the Gardens of Villa Monastero in Varenna. Our best meal was at the upstairs Ristorante Terrazza Barchetta in Bellagio.
