This hotel is located in easy walking distance of the train station. We did go in circles following the signs on the road. When you walk directly out of the train station, turn left and it is the first road on the left. Continental Park Hotel is but two streets down and on the right side of the street.
Don’t confuse this hotel with the Continental Park in Lugano. They are not related. The immediate check-in area is to the right when you walk in. For some reason, people were going up to the second floor. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful.
We were given a modern room. The chairs inside the room were plastic. The room was not overly large with twin beds.
The bathroom was doable with a tub you had to hurdle over.
There was a small refrigerator and the AC was easy to regulate.
We did notice other people who inquired about room availability. All but for a Saturday night with a large concert going on there was always availability. The people were quoted for a double room of 180 francs. We paid a hundred francs more. Is this hotel worth 280 francs? Of course not! Continental Park was our most expensive hotel in our 18 day sojourn through Switzerland.
We also noticed that there were rooms that had balconies. We had booked six months in advance. Why did we not have a room with a balcony? I was told “you can request a balcony.” There was nothing mention on the web site about balconies. Our room faced the interior of a large courtyard apartment complex.
We had an issue with how the room was cleaned. On the second day of our four night booking, our second key was taken out of the slot to keep the electricity working. No one would admit taking it. We secured our belongings for the next two days. The second issue is that the body wash and shampoo dispenser was never filled. For two days we used our own items.
The breakfasts, though, were exceptional in the main restaurant. We caught on quickly that you could order omelets and fried eggs from a menu which was on the table. One of my omelets was the best I ever had. The vegetables with fried rice were also very tasty. Coffee or tea would be brought to you.
We learned on the last day that there is a terrace on the top floor. Six chairs are there with partial views of Mount Pilatus. I could never figure out how the fitness room worked.
Lucerne is absolutely beautiful city with plenty to do. We were able to fit in four days of activities easily. Must see is the Lion’s Monument. We enjoyed walking along the lake to both the Transportation Museum and Henry Wagner’s home. We did go to Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Rigi by boat. Both would be beautiful on a nice day. Our favorite restaurant was Manora at Manor’s Department store. The food was good and reasonable.
