A Few Tips about Lake Lugano

A tad different than being on Lake Como, Lugano and the lake add a different character with a Swiss attitude. We immensely enjoyed walking around the lake trail of Lugano. Traveling both directions, we saw unique vistas, shops and how the Swiss people use their lake.

One of the major attractions is to visit up close the 150 foot spraying fountain. “Getto D’Acqua” is not as high as the 300 foot high fountain in Geneva, but truly as spectacular.

If you go inland from there and not too far away is the mountain lift to San Salvatore—a must do view in Lugano.

The Lake Trail is wide, flanked with flowers, statues and it is clean. By the bland Casino is the sculpture of Igor Mitoraj—the giant head on its side.

We came across a playground for kids that would shame most playgrounds in the States. There were plenty of children using the playground too.

The boat ride is an option. We kept this activity for our next visit to Lugano as it was mostly raining while we were there.There is no question the beauty and history of Old Town Lugano. The narrow streets with shops will keep your attention for hours.

We enjoyed a cozy restaurant called La Tinera.

We stayed in the historic Continental Park Hotel where the famous German writer Hermann Hesse wrote his first book in 1919. This hotel is near the train station with spectacular views of Lake Lugano. It has an inviting pool too.
