Just image being in the same room that FDR, Einstein, Lindbergh and theDouble Mint Twins slept in? And the price for having this experience was $129 dollars. This is a place for “history aficionados.”
We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this landmark hotel built in 1930. La Posada was the last of the Fred Harvey hotels built along the railroad. Mary Colter was the famous architect and La Posada is regarded as her best work.
The new owners since 1997 have refurbished the interior, but kept the unique character intact. Interesting art work has been added not only downstairs, but upstairs too. We enjoyed sitting by the fireplace that was enjoyed by so many others before us.
Associated with La Posada is the Turquoise Restaurant which is quite famous and is the best restaurant in eastern Arizona. The prices are reasonable and the ambiance is so southwest.
Even if you don’t stay at La Posada, visiting is well worth the time in seeing this historic treasure. A large art/souvenir shop is located in the front of the hotel.
If you stay long enough, you may hear and see a train go by.
Just down the street is the famous corner made famous by the Eagles band, “Taking it Easy.”
And, on the eastern end is a park dedicated to 9/11 with actual girders from the Twin Towers.
Winslow may have had better days, but La Posada has weathered the storm.
