Located in downtown Jensen Beach along Pineapple Avenue near the railroad tracks, Kona Café does transform itself into a “beachy scene” with a tiki hut, fire-pits and cracker style architecture. It has become a popular place, particularly on the weekends.
We sat in the tiki-hut by the bar and it was extremely comfortable. Two of my friends ordered from the “Taco Tuesday” special. With an order of two tacos, a mug of beer is free.
One of my friends thought his chicken taco “was good,” particularly with the sauce on top. The chips, too, were crisp. Another friend had a Kona hotdog and thought it “was just ok.”
I had the barbeque pulled-pork and it was delicious. The meat was tender and the barbeque was tasty. The fries, though, were a bit “soggy.” I should have ordered them “well-done.” The cole-slaw with pineapple came in a very small cup. A larger portion is needed.
Overall we thought the ambiance was superb, the service was excellent and our time at Kona Beach Café was well spent. There is also a small boutique shop on the premise which adds to the character.
