With our fifth visit to Kauai, we finally stopped at the Kilohana Plantation Estate. This is definitely a unique plantation built by Gaylord Wilcox back in 1935.
The large Tudor home, 16,000 square feet of it, is now shops and the famous Gaylord’s restaurant. It was interesting walking around. For some reason, the “Sweet shop” was never opened when we visited twice.
There is a separate house for “Koloa Rum Tours.” We actually liked the free “Koloa Rum tasting Tour” that helped you understand the process and history behind this rum. Well worth it if you have the time. My wife enjoyed the presentation, even though she did not drink the rum.
There is a train—the only one on Kauai- that will take the family for a ride. On Sundays there is a brunch at Gaylord’s that is well attended. You may want to inquire about reservations.
