Chartres, France, July 2008 Blog
I would never attempt to drive in Paris. We took a Air-France bus from the Charles De Gaulle airport into Paris to get to a train station. They warned you on putting the seat-belt on. I didn’t and almost flew across the seat as the driver hit the brakes hard several times going through Paris traffic. Our first major stop was Chartres (about a 60 minute train ride south of Paris) which is famous for their La Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Chartres.
Auguste Rodin called it ‘the Acropolis of France.’ It is most definitely impressive with Gothic buttresses, beautiful stained-glass windows and the Cathedral is just huge.
We saw the ‘free’ light-show at night which illuminated Chartres Cathedral.
We stayed in Chartres for two nights. It is a small town, quaint and a good stop outside of Paris.
