The Lion Monument in Lucerne, Switzerland. An essential stop while visiting the area. Mark Twain called the Lion “the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world. Carved by Lukas Ahorn in 1820 commemorating the death of Swiss troops who died trying to protect Louis XVI.
