A great option in Downtown Disney

You can actually sit near the lake in the back. Plenty of room here.

Having walked past this restaurant many times, we finally gave it a try–and we glad we did. My wife said after our meal, “we are coming back here…”

Bongo’s is a very inviting place to have a meal, listen to music, drink and everything else.

At first we went to the outside café area. My wife was definitely not impress with the outside menu. But, I took her inside and showed her the extensive “inside” menu.

As we have eaten in Cuban restaurants several times, i.e.El Siboney in Key West and Columbia in St. Augustine, we had an idea of what we wanted. My wife chose “Grilled Chicken” breast marinated in Garlic and Lemon sauce. Plantains and rice came with it. She substituted the white rice for two cups of Black beans. The chicken was just fabulous with superb taste.

I had the “Shredded Beef” with Criolla sauce with onions and peppers. At first I asked for it to be “spicy,” but Percy our waiter suggested the spice on the side. I followed his suggestion and I am glad I did.

Beer and wine was your normal Disney rate of $6/7. The food is a bit pricy, but we did find our hotel coupon book that let you have a twenty percent discount on entrees. Bread was extra which is usually not the case at other Cuban restaurants.

At the bar people actually sit on bongos.

The ambiance is exceptional. There are a number of outside and upstairs tables overlooking the lake. We sad inside and found it enjoyable. Music is normally played at night, but we were there for a late lunch. We liked what we had and saw and would not expect anything different from the owners Emilo and Gloria Estefan.
