Follow route 179 out past I-17 and continue for another four miles going east. You will come to several one lane bridges. Not much traffic, but a UPS did fly past us.

The V Bar V Ranch was a private ranch owned by several ranchers in the past. They all had one idea in common: to keep the petroglyphs a secret. The US Forest Department has since purchased the land, cleared out the brush and the petroglyphs are open for public viewing.

A Ranchers chimney still exists.

The V Bar V Petroglyphs are not advertised on I-17, but we were lucky to come across the site in a travel book. It does make an interesting one hour stop.

There is a museum at the beginning of the trail with helpful personal.

We did spot a large non-poisonous Gopher Snake near-by along the road. It made a nice picture.

The trail is paved in gravel and is but a third of a mile.

A beautiful Arizona Cottonwood stands near the petroglyphs.

An informative docent was present to answer any questions.
